Markets on Friday closed up about 0.5 per cent as wholesale inflation came down to 7.24 per cent. The BSE Sensex ended the day up 0.5 per cent at 19,317. The NSE Nifty was also up 0.5 per cent at 5,879.

“Market participants also cheered the announcement that the Cabinet has approved a urea policy that will make the country self-sufficient in fertilisers besides bringing in projects to the tune of Rs 35,000 crore and a host of moves to expedite approvals for projects and a new law for land acquisition,” said an end of day report from IIFL.

Metal, banking and realty indices on the BSE were up 2.3, 1.3 and 1.01 per cent. The only indices to register a decline were the consumer durables, healthcare and power sector indices.

Among the Sensex stocks, the top five gainers were Sterlite Industries, Hindalco, SBI, Jindal Steel and Tata Steel. Tata Motors was also up on JLR sales report. The top five laggards were Bharti Airtel, BHEL, Dr Reddy's, Tata Power and Cipla.
