Metal shares stole the show on the markets on Tuesday morning. Tata Steel and Hindalco Industries led the pack on the NSE at 10.50 am with gains of 2.39 per cent each. Tata Steel was trading at Rs 393.95, as against its overnight close at Rs 384.75.
Hindalco Industries was quoting at Rs 143.60 as against its Monday close at Rs 140.25.
The markets were buoyed by the RBI's surprise rate cut last week and robust earnings reported by some blue-chips. The Sensex as perched above the 28,400-level, having notched up gains of over 160 points during the session. The Nifty had breached the 8,600-level with gains of over 50 points.
Jindal Steel spurted 2.14 per cent at Rs 154.90. The share ended yesterday’s session at Rs 151.65.
Sesa Sterlite was trading at Rs 197.05 as against Rs 193.15 at close on Monday. This represented a gain of 2.02 per cent.
Cairn India built gains of 1.90 per cent to trade at Rs 238.60 as against Rs 234.15 at close yesterday.
