In view of the high recall value for the Nifty, the NSE will re-brand all its indices with the prefix Nifty effective November 9, 2015. For instance, the CNX Nifty will be called Nifty 50 and the CNX Nifty Junior will be renamed Nifty Next 50.
The Lix 15 will be called Nifty 100 Liquid 15 while sectoral indices with the prefix CNX would be replaced by Nifty, for instance, Nifty Auto, Nifty Bank and Nifty Metal. Thematic index CPSE will be Nifty CPSE while strategy index CNX Defty will be renamed Nifty 50 USD.
Chitra Ramkrishna, MD and CEO, NSE, said, “Over the years, Nifty 50 has become synonymous with the Indian equity market, both domestically and internationally. Inclusion of Nifty in the name of India Index Services & Products Ltd’s indices will enhance the acceptability of products linked to Nifty. Ever increasing participation in Nifty indices indicates growing interest in the Indian market.”
