NLC India , formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation, as a part of its business promotion and diversification plan, has joined the league of accredited power traders with CERC granting it Category I licence. NLC India took up trading of unrequisitioned surplus power in 2016 through NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam and earned revenue of ₹134 crore in 2016-17, and ₹294 crore in 2017-18. Now, it plans to carry out the trading activity independently through an exclusive power trading arm by procuring power from other GENCOS through bilateral agreements. Shares of NLC India slipped 2.2 per cent at ₹85.20 on the BSE.
