The rising price of gold does not seem to have diminished its lustre a wee bit for the Indian buyers if the volume of trading of the yellow metal through the gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) on the occasion of Dhanteras in the NSE on Monday is any indication.
The National Stock Exchange registered a volume of Rs 636.04 crore in gold ETFs on that day. The number of units traded was at 24.61 lakh, highest ever on a single day, the NSE has said in a release.
The exchange said the trading volume in gold ETFs has been growing steadily in the last three years and on Dhanteras this year, 68,224 investors traded in gold ETFs. The day is considered the most auspicious occasion to buy gold and both the NSE and the BSE extended their trading hours up to 8 pm. As a special gesture to investors, the NSE had waived the transaction charges for trading in gold ETFs.
