Hindustan Unilever held on to its firm undertone to stay ahead of the pack on the NSE by close on Wednesday. At 3.20 pm it was trading at Rs 803, up 3.65 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 774.70.
NTPC extended its rally to quote at Rs 142.65 as against Rs 139.20 at close on Tuesday. This was a gain of 2.48 per cent.
Falling global oil prices and the political crisis in Greece kept the markets under pressure again today. The Sensex had lost over a 100 points by late trading, while the NSE had declined by about 40 points.
Asian Paints was firm but had shed some of its morning gains by close. It was trading at Rs 773.20 as against Rs 756.50 at close yesterday. This represented a gain of 2.21 per cent.
Reliance Industries continued to move north. It was trading at Rs 853.50 in late session, a gain of 2.08 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 836.10.
Kotak Mahindra Bank was also among the top gainers, trading at Rs 1,273.45, up 1.77 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 1,251.35.
