SBI spikes up 8% on BSE

State Bank of India maintained its firm trend on the markets on Friday, buoyed by robust third quarter results announced earlier today. At 3.40 pm the share was trading at Rs 307.05, having vaulted up 7.96 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 284.40.

M&M sped up 5.11 per cent to quote at Rs 1,192. The scrip had closed Thursday’s session at Rs 1,134. The auto maker posted a 1 per cent increase in Q3 net at Rs 942 crore in the third quarter.

TCS rallied further to hold gains of 3.08 per cent near the close. It was quoting at Rs 2,538.65. The share had closed yesterday’s session at Rs 2,462.80.

Coal India made strides in the afternoon session to trade at Rs 377.50. This was a gain of 2.37 per cent on its previous close at Rs 368.75.

ITC was also up 2.01 per cent at Rs 378.05. The share had ended yesterday’s session at Rs 370.60. The company announced today that it has bought the Savlon and Shower to Shower brands from Johnson & Johnson.

The Sensex and the Nifty extended their firm trend today, buoyed by healthy third quarter numbers reported by SBI. The Nifty jumped over 90 points to 8,805.50, while the Sensex surged nearly 300 points to breach the 29,000-mark once again..
