Benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex ended the day on a flat note. The Nifty closed at 5,600, down 9.95 points while the Sensex closed at 18,496, down 46.3 points.
The markets consolidated after the rally in the last few days. Weak global cues failed to give the markets any direction, say analysts.
“Markets ended the day marginally lower. There is come consolidation in the markets after the rally in the last few sessions. Tomorrow is a holiday therefore there was not much activity. Markets are waiting for some political trigger,” said Dipen Shah, VP, Kotak Securities.
The PSU index was up 1.58 per cent, followed by the Capital Goods index. The Oil & Gas index was down 1.13 per cent.
BHEL, SBI and GAIL were the top three gainers, while Wipro, TCS and Hindalco were the top three losers.
