The Nifty and the Sensex ended Tuesday flat on lacklustre trading due to absence of any trigger affecting market sentiment.
The Nifty closed at 5,128, up 10 points, and the Sensex closed at 16,918, up 41 points.
Dealers said fatigue on policy inaction has set in among investors with diesel price hike being awaited eagerly. Also being awaited is the RBI’s first quarter review of monetary policy on July 31, they said.
HUL was Tuesday’s best performer on the Nifty on the back of robust first quarter earnings. The scrip gained 7.57 per cent and closed at Rs 476.5.
Volatility was down 9 per cent and the volatility index, India Vix closed at 16.97.
