Renewed concerns from the Euro zone saw the Nifty and the Sensex shed their intra-day gains to end the session flat on Wednesday.
The Nifty closed at 5,300, up 11 points (0.19 per cent) and the Sensex at 17,392, up 34 points (0.2 per cent).
“There has been a mismatch in yesterday’s bond auction in Spain in terms of the cost of borrowing and the quality of assets offered,” said the Head of Research of an Indian brokerage.
“With NPAs rising along with unemployment, cost of borrowing for the Spanish Government will only increase,” he added.
All sectors barring auto closed flat, some in the green and some in the red. Volatility was down 1.37 per cent and the India Vix closed at 20.03.
ACC, Tata Power, HCL Tech, Ambuja Cement and Cairn were the top five Nifty gainers while RCom, DLF, HDFC, Axis Bank and ITC were the top losers.
