The Nifty and the Sensex closed marginally in the green in a day of volatile trading.
The Nifty closed at 5898 up 11points while the Sensex closed at19501 up 33 points.
“Market continues to remain in a narrow trading band as participants seem to be on a wait and watch mode for some time. In coming days there is hope of a pre-budget rally as the index trades in the oversold condition,” said Amar Ambani Head-Research IIFL.
Most broader and sectoral indices also displayed the same behavior closing flat barring realty, capital goods and power.
Volatility was high with the volatility index, India VIX closing at 16.29, up seven per cent.
DLF, JP Associates, Tata Steel, Powergrid and R-Infra were the top five Nifty gainers while Jindal Steel, Coal India, TCS, Bajaj Auto and Ultratech cement were the top losers.
