The Nifty and the Sensex closed flat on Monday. The Nifty closed at 5,363, up five points, and the Sensex closed at 17,767, up 17 points.
Marketmen said they were eagerly awaiting inflation, industrial production and advance tax numbers for cues.
“Now the investors may look forward for the FOMC meeting which is to be held on September 12 and 13. On September 15, the advance tax numbers may come out, also the RBI policy meet on September 17 is most awaited,” said Alex Mathews Head Research, Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services Ltd.
Volatility was up 3.46 per cent and the India Vix closed at 15.27.
Broader indices barring the BSE small cap were flat.
Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Auto, Coal India and Tata Steel were the top five Nifty gainers, while Axis Bank, BHEL, SBI, Jindal Steel and DLF were the top five losers.
