The Nifty and the Sensex closed flat on Thursday amidst choppy trading. The Nifty was down 13 points and closed at 5,228. The Sensex shed 33 points and closed at 17,224.
Dealers said that the status quo maintained by US Fed in terms of interest rates has now made market-men look towards the European Central Bank for cues.
“Markets are fatigued and participants are still waiting for that big cue either from home in the form of policy measures or from Euro zone in the form of austerity measures to tackle debt,” said a Head of Research of an Indian brokerage.
All the Indices on the NSE and the BSE closed flat barring consumer durables and oil & gas indices on the BSE.
The BSE consumer durables index rose 1.14 per cent to close at 6391 and the oil and gas index closed one per cent down at 8,051.
