Markets closed on a flat note on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex ended the day up 0.01 per cent at 17,105.30, while the NSE Nifty ended the day down 0.08 per cent at 5,192.85.
Asian stocks were up 0.35 per cent. There were mixed cues from the European markets and American markets were down about 0.2 per cent.
“As coming weeks are holding key events, market players seems to play safe and book profits on rallies. Most of the stocks, particularly from banking and pharma sectors, were showing strength in the opening trade. However, most of them descended to lower levels by the end of the trading day,” said Ms Nidhi Saraswat, Senior Research Analyst, Bonanza Portfolio.
Top gainers on the BSE were Wipro, Dr Reddy’s and ITC, while the top losers were Bajaj Auto, TCS and M&M.
