Trading on the Nifty and the Sensex was lacklustre on Wednesday. It was a unidirectional movement from a gap up in the opening trade to slightly negative at close.
The Nifty closed at 5,239.15, down nine points over its previous close. The Sensex also closed marginally in the red, at 17,302, down 17 points.
“FII volume was significant by the lack of it due to a weakening rupee,” said the Head of Research of an MNC brokerage.
The advance decline ratio on the Nifty was 14: 36. All indices on the NSE and the BSE closed flat — either marginally in the green or marginally in the red.
Volatility was up four per cent and the India Vix closed at 18.54.
DLF, Bharti Airtel, Cipla, HUL and PNB were the top Nifty gainers, while Tata Motors, Maruti, Grasim, ACC and Ambuja Cements were the top losers.
