It was the second consecutive day of the street ending the day in the red with the Nifty and the Sensex losing 1.56 per cent and 1.67 per cent, respectively.
The Nifty closed at 4,886.7, down 77 points while the Sensex closed at 16,213, down 274.78 points.
“Euro zone leaders have voted in favour of a fiscal union which is another step towards political integration of the EU member states,” said the Head of Research of an Indian brokerage.
“But it remains to be seen whether they would actually be able to implement monetary and fiscal discipline.”
RPower, Hindalco, Kotak Bank, Dr. Reddy’s and Jindal Steel were the top five Nifty gainers while SAIL, JP Associates, Siemens, M&M and Tata Power were the top five losers.
