Sesa Sterlite was firm but off its morning levels in afternoon trade on Wednesday. At 2.29 pm the share was trading at Rs 197.30 as against Rs 192.95 at close on Tuesday. This was a gain of 2.25 per cent.
State Bank of India made further ground, notching up gains of 1.70 per cent at Rs 287.6. The share had ended the previous session at Rs 282.80.
Hero MotoCorp extended its rally to hold gains of 0.93 per cent at Rs 2,677. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 2,652.45.
Tata Power edged up 0.62 per cent to quote at Rs 80.95 as against Rs 80.45 at close yesterday.
GAIL (India) sailed up 0.5 per cent to trade at Rs 381.75 as against Rs 379.85 at close on Tuesday.
The Sensex and the Nifty edged lower ahead of a key US Federal Reserve meeting later today. The meeting would shed light on the future direction of US rate policy. The Sensex was down nearly 100 points at below the 28,650 level, while the Nifty lost about 30 points to hover just below the 8,700 mark.
