Sesa Sterlite, Tata Steel maintain firm trend on NSE

HDFC surged nearly 6 per cent in late trading to lead the pack on the NSE by close on Tuesday. At 3.35 pm the share was quoting at Rs 1,251.55 as against Rs 1,181.70 at close on Monday. This represented a gain of 5.91 per cent.

Metal stocks Sesa Sterlite and Tata Steel held firm throughout the day today. Sesa Sterlite was up 5.70 per cent at Rs 204.15 as against Rs 193.15 at close yesterday.

Both the Sensex and the Nifty spiralled to record highs on the back of reports that the Chinese economy had performed better than expected. Metal shares rallied on the news. Domestic sentiment was propped up by last week's surprise rate cut and the results posted by blue-chips in the last quarter.

The Sensex surged over 500 points to breach the 28,750-mark while the Nifty was within striking distance of the 8,700-mark.

Tata Steel spiked up 4.48 per cent to trade at Rs 402. The share had closed the overnight session at Rs 384.75.

Axis Bank surged 4.24 per cent to quote at Rs 551.40 as against Rs 528.95 at close yesterday.

Tata Motors rode up 3.84 per cent at Rs 559.20 as against Rs 538.50 at close on Monday.
