Metal shares Sesa Sterlite and Tata Steel were among the top gainers on the BSE near the close on New Year’s Day.
At 2.40 pm Sesa Sterlite held gains of 2.29 per cent to trade at Rs 219. The share had closed the previous session at Rs 214.10.
Bharti Airtel was also on a firm wicket, trading at Rs 360.90. This represented a gain of 2.28 per cent. The share had ended the overnight session at Rs 352.85.
BHEL held on to its firm undertone in late trading. It was trading at Rs 268.55, up 1.26 per cent on yesterday’s close at Rs 265.20.
Tata Steel held gains of 1.11 per cent to quote at Rs 403.80 as against Rs 399.35 at close yesterday.
ONGC flared up 1.03 per cent to quote at Rs 344.70 as against Rs 341.20 at close overnight.
