With the European crisis looming large, the four software majors — Wipro, Infosys, TCS and HCL Tech — were trading in the negative territory on the NSE this morning, just ahead of the opening of the European markets.
The fact that only 15 stocks had gained against 35 that were down indicated the overall market mood with the Nifty down by about 44 points and Sensex by about 140 points.
In terms of value, Infosys was the biggest loser, probably because of its higher price, with the scrip losing Rs 45.60 to trade around Rs 2,788. While TCS was down by Rs 14.10 at Rs 1,092.75, HCL Tech lost Rs 4.30 to trade around Rs 434 and Wipro was down by Rs 5.60 to trade around Rs 368.
The other major losers were Hero Motocorp that lost Rs 33.40 to trade around Rs 2,055 and Axis Bank which was down by Rs 21.75 to trade around Rs 1,104.
Though the gainers’ list was long, other than BHEL, which was up by Rs 7.30 to trade around Rs 323, GAIL that was up by Rs 3.80 to quote Rs 423 and Maruti that was up by Rs 6.80 to trade at Rs 1,130.80, most of the others had gained by less than Re 1.
