Sterlite, Axis Bank post robust gains on NSE

Except five stocks, rest of the 45 stocks constituting the NSE Nifty ended in the green at the time of closing of trading on Friday.

While four of the Nifty stocks — Sterlite, Axis Bank, Jindal Steel and Power and Tata Motors — made a gain of 7+ per cent, seven others — Sesa Goa, ICICI Bank, DLF, IDFC, Reliance, Tata Steel and Hindalco — made 5+ per cent gains in today’s trading.

Sterlite was the biggest gainer of 8.47 per cent and the share closed at Rs 113.35. Though Axis Bank came next with 8.41 per cent gain, in terms of value it was the biggest gainer in the Nifty with a gain of Rs 80.05.

Metal stocks like Jindal Steel, Tata Steel and Sesa Goa had something to cheer as the downward pressure in their counters was reversed and the stocks made positive gains.

However, Hero Motocorp Ltd, Ranbaxy, Tata Power, Ambuja Cement and Bharti Airtel closed in the red. Bharti was the biggest loser among the Nifty stocks both in terms of value and percentage losing Rs 12.65 or 3.46 per cent to close at Rs 353.45 on the NSE.
