Sugar refiners gained on expectations that the Government will approve an increase in raw sugar subsidy paid to mills.
Bajaj Hindusthan gained 2.2 per cent, Shree Renuka Sugars added 1.9 per cent, Balrampur Chini Mills surged 0.7 per cent and Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd rose 1.3 per cent.
The Cabinet could soon approve an increase in the raw sugar subsidy paid to mills to about Rs 4,000, sources told Reuters.
The decision on subsidy for raw-sugar exports will benefit refiners, said traders.
