Nifty at 1,000: Index launched on April 21, 1996; base value set at 1,000.

Nifty at 2,000: Index touched 2,000 on December 2, 2004, doubling investors’ wealth in eight years.

Nifty at 3,000: On January 30, 2006, Nifty hit 3,000-mark.

Nifty at 4,000: December 1, 2006. In one year, Nifty gained a 1,000 points.

Nifty at 7,000: It took seven years for this journey. Nifty hit the 7,000-mark on May 12, 2014, on the back of polls suggesting a BJP victory in elections.

Nifty at 8,000: Modi rally. On September 1, 2014, Nifty touched 8,000.

Nifty at 9,000: Nifty hit the 9,000-mark on March 14, 2017, on strong buying from foreign investors.

Nifty at 10,000: Government’s GST push, and good monsoon are the reasons cited for markets reaching this level.
