Metal shares were the top gainers on the NSE as well, with Vedanta forging ahead with gains of 10.06 per cent. At 11.44 am the share was trading at Rs 102.25 against Rs 92.90 at close yesterday.
Tata Steel surged 3.38 per cent to trade at Rs 248.95 against Rs 240.80 at close overnight.
Hindalco Industries was up 3.04 per cent at Rs 84.85 against Rs 82.35 at close last evening.
ÍCICI Bank advanced 3.02 per cent to trade at Rs 286.85 against Rs 278.45 at close on Thursday.
ONGC flared up 1.96 per cent to quote at Rs 262.70 against Rs 257.65 at close yesterday.
