Taiwan stocks rose on Thursday, tracking overseas shares and ahead of a holiday week-end at home.

As of 0232 GMT, the main TAIEX index was up 1.14 per cent at 9615.84, after closing down 0.82 per cent on Wednesday.

The gains were broad-based, with the electronics sub-index gaining 1.4 per cent and the financial sub-index 1.02 per cent higher.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.103 to stand at T$31.259 to the US dollar.

Taiwan’s financial markets will be shut from Friday through Monday for the Children’s Day and Tombsweeping Day holidays. The markets will reopen on April 7.
