Tata Steel Ltd has secured a huge contract from Siemens Wind Power to supply 25,000 tonnes of high quality profiled steel plate for wind towers.

It was the biggest order the company’s dedicated wind tower hub in Scunthorpe, England had secured that was ‘worth an eight figure’ sum in British pounds and which established Tata Steel as a ‘key supplier to Siemens Wind Power’, Tata Steel said in a statement.

The company had earlier delivered 6,000 tonnes of steel plate for similar application in the UK and Europe. Its Scunthorpe facility was established in 2010 to process and distribute steel plate for the manufacture of wind turbine towers.

Tata Steel hopes that the order would open up further opportunities to supply other steel products such as hot rolled coil and hollow sections that were used in wind turbines.
