V.S. Natarajan, former Chairman of State Bank of India, passed away this morning at his home at Boat Club Road in Chennai. He was to be 90 in a couple of days.
Joining the bank in 1943, he held various senior-level positions before becoming the Chairman of the bank in 1982.
Known for his straightforwardness right through his career as a banker, Natarajan was well respected by his colleagues and other bankers in the industry.
Natarajan is survived by his son (Subramaniam), two daughters (Usha and Vijaya), grand children and great grand children.
His wife, Lalitha Natarajan (80), passed away a few months ago.
