India Inc's appetite for external commercial borrowings is growing by leaps and bounds. Taking advantage of the low interest rates prevailing overseas, Indian companies borrowed $8 billion in the April-June 2011 quarter, against $5.30 billion in the corresponding period last year.
As per the latest RBI data, Indian companies borrowed $3.33 billion in June 2011. Amongst the biggest borrowers through the ECB route in June are: Aircel Ltd ($992 million); Adani Power Ltd ($500 million); Dishnet Wireless Ltd. ($200 million); GAIL (India) Ltd. ($150 million); and JSW Steel ($107 million).
