Banks should identify intelligent people and create think-tanks to retain quality talent, S Gurumurthy, Corporate Advisor and Commentator on Economic and Political Affairs said here on Sunday.
Delivering the key note address at the 25th Triennial General Body Meeting of State Bank of India Officers’ Association – Chennai Circle, he urged the participants to create a group of “Think-tank”, who could help enhance the brand of public sector banks.
‘The group should meet annually and share their ideas. Today, public sector banks are not able to retain quality talent because they are branded badly in the first place; remuneration comes second. Only a good brand can attract and retain talent pool. People prefer foreign banks not for remuneration, but think it is a respectable place to work in a foreign bank. Therefore enhance your brand,” he said and appealed for a paradigm change in unionism.
“”Unionism has this far concentrated on relationship within the institution. But the bank as an institution should be properly understood by the people. Think-tank groups can help foster relationship banking and highlight the potential/capacity of the banks to the public,” he said.
