Union Bank of India has said that it will increase the number of its ATM outlets to 5,000 from the present 2,500 before March 2012.
Additionally, five ‘Banks of the future’-fully automated branches would be set up in Tamil Nadu, the Union Bank General Manager (Alternate Channels and New Initiative Department), Mr Lalit Sinha, said.
While addressing a press conference here, he said 50 per cent of the transactions in 2010-11 were done through electronic mode up from 35 per cent two years ago and this would be increased to 60 per cent and the bank is “working in that direction for now’’.
The bank had introduced cashless transactions in Madhya Pradesh and one million online transactions were made in the last nine months. Internet account users were satisfied with the performance of the internet banking service, he said.
Also, Union Bank has plans to strengthen its call centres to offer better service to customers.
Mr Sinha further said that the bank had won ACI excellence award 2011 for ‘Customer empowerment using ACI solutions BASE 24’ in the payment transformation category.
