Bank unions to go on strike on July 29

The Unions have been against the proposed SBI, privatisation of IDBI and other banking reforms

BANK-STRIKE

As conciliation measures failed to yield any fruitful outcome, all the nine unions of the banking industry declared to proceed further with their one-day strike on July 29 under the leadership of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

Total about 10 lakh employees and officers of public sector banks including 70,000 from Gujarat will observe strike across India.

"Conciliation in presence of Central labour commissioner was held today at Delhi. But conciliation failed , hence all the 9 unions of banking industry will proceed on strike on 29th July," a statement from the Maha Gujarat Bank Employees' Association said.

The 9 unions that will join the nation-wide strike include AIBEA, NCBE, BEFI, NOBW, AIBOC, AIBOC, NOBO.

The Unions have been against the proposed merger of the State Bank associate banks with SBI, privatisation of IDBI and other banking reforms that the government has initiated. While they are demanding recovery of NPAs from defaulters, declaring wilful defaulters as criminals, said Janak Raval General Secretary of Maha Gujarat Bank Employees' Association.
