The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) said on Monday that it would support the two-day all-India strike called by the central trade unions.

According to a press statement, the forum, which consists of nine federations, representing almost 100 per cent of the workers in the banking sector , has also called for an all-India bank strike in favour of the 10-point charter of demands of the trade unions.

The demands of UFBU include stopping banking reforms; outsourcing of banking works; initiating early revision of wages; controlling the alarming price rise and settling pending cases under the compassionate appointment scheme.

UFBU claimed that passing the Banking Laws Amendment Bill (2012) would open doors to more corporate houses in the banking industry, thereby returning to the pre-nationalisation era (before 1969).
