Corporation Bank inaugurated its new branch at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. A bank release said here that the new branch at Amethi — along with the branchless banking units, Corp Vikas mobile van and financial literacy and credit counselling centre — was inaugurated by Mr Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament of Amethi.

Mr Ajai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, presided over the function. Mr Ashwani Kumar, Executive Director of the bank, was present on the occasion.

The mobile ATM van will be used for the benefit of the customers of Amethi and surrounding areas. The van will go around in a fixed route and will halt at specified locations at pre-determined timings. ATM services will be provided during the stationed time at any particular location. The van has the facility of internet connectivity and will also display short films or important general information on matters of financial literacy and inclusion.

The release said the designated staff in the van will also assist the customers in filling up account opening forms, loan applications , and collect the same from them for submitting in the branch. Corporation Bank has 89 branches in Uttar Pradesh and has two zonal offices in the state.

FINANCIAL INCLUSION

Corporation Bank has so far opened 13.88 lakh ‘no-frill' accounts under the financial inclusion programme. It has issued general credit cards to more than 23,726 customers, with the loan outstanding of Rs 31.80 crore. The bank has operationalised ‘branchless banking' units in 2,618 locations through business correspondents for the implementation of financial inclusion programme. The bank has also implemented urban financial inclusion in 76 urban locations.

Branchless banking locations

The release said the bank proposes to increase the total branchless banking locations to 4,000 by end of the current year and to 6,000 by 2013. Urban financial inclusion locations are to reach 250 by this year end, it said.
