The first-year premium of life insurers in April remained almost flat at Rs 4,965 crore compared with Rs 4,937 crore in the same period last year.
Of this, the premium collected by the Life Insurance Corporation of India stood at Rs 3,632 crore, down from Rs 3,811 crore garnered in the year-ago period.
Private insurers, however, saw their total first year premium collections rise to Rs 1,333 crore (Rs 1,125 cr).
NON-LIFE
The gross premium underwritten by general insurers increased 22 per cent to Rs 7,890 crore as against Rs 6,467 crore in the year-ago period.
