As many as 452 out of the 858 claims made for the ₹1 lakh accidental insurance cover under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) have been paid.
While 380 claims were found to be invalid, only 26 claims are pending due to non-submission of complete documents, official sources said.
On the life insurance cover of ₹30,000, the number of claims filed stood at 2,298.
Out of this, 1,976 claims have been paid and 297 claims were found to be invalid.
As of February 19 this year, only 25 claims are pending on account of non-submission of complete documents. Under PMJDY, the beneficiaries get a RuPay debit card having inbuilt accident insurance cover of ₹1 lakh.
In addition, there is life insurance cover of ₹30,000 for people who opened their bank accounts for the first time between August 15, 2014 and January 31, 2015.
Besides, under the PMJDY, an overdraft facility of up to ₹5,000 is also made available, subject to certain eligibility conditions. As of February 10, public sector banks (PSB) have opened 19.95 crore accounts under the scheme, with total deposits of ₹31,135 crore.
Till February 19, as many as 31.6 lakh accounts have been sanctioned overdraft facility. About 15.74 lakh account holders have availed overdraft facility involving an amount of ₹203.15 crore, sources added.
Initially, under PMJDY about 7.5 crore accounts were expected to be opened between August 15, 2014 to January 26, 2015. This target was later revised to 10 crore accounts. On January 31 last year, 12.54 crore accounts had already been opened.
Meanwhile, the zero balance accounts under PMJDY as on date have come down to 29.04 per cent from 67.30 per cent as on January 1, 2015.
