The regional office of the Reserve Bank has clarified that coins of denomination of 25 paise and below can be exchanged at the offices of the Reserve Bank, and branches of currency chest/small coin depot-maintaining banks until close of business of June 29 only.
These coins shall cease to be legal tender thereafter and will not be accepted for exchange from June 30 onwards, Mr K. V. Viswanathan, Deputy General Manager, Reserve Bank said.
The matter was advertised in four newspapers by the regional office on April 4 as ‘corrigendum,' he said. The clarification was being issued in the context of the last date for exchange of the coins being called in from circulation being published in error in some sections of the media.
