The gross premium underwritten by non-life insurers during April-June 2011 has increased by 22.35 per cent at Rs 14,045 crore compared with Rs 11,479 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to figures released by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) on Tuesday, the gross premium of private life insurers increased by 27.4 per cent at Rs 6,020 crore.
The public general insurers posted a growth of 18.9 per cent at Rs 8,025 crore. The first year premium of life insures for the period up to June 2011, however, decreased 28.5 per cent at Rs 18,281 crore compared with Rs 25,521 crore in the year-ago period.
