Western Union, a global payment service player, has expanded its offering to non-resident Indians to send money from the US and UK directly into most bank accounts in India.

Customers will be able to send international money transfers directly into bank accounts, in up to 48 countries, including India.

As part of the company’s international money transfer offering, consumers in the US and UK can now send direct-to-bank transactions to most banks in India online — via the company’s transactional Web sites and, in the US, via its smartphone application — or by visiting its Agent locations, said Hikmet Ersek, President, CEO and Director, Western Union.

Ersek said, “We are pursuing a multi-product, multi-channel strategy to enable consumers to manage their finances the way they want.”

Western Union also partnered with private sector lender Kotak Mahindra Bank to act as a Business Correspondent to the bank as it expand its services to 500 locations in India.
