The non-performing assets (NPA) problem in the banking sector calls for caution, but it is not something to be too worried about, said Mr K. V. Kamath, Chairman of ICICI Bank and Infosys.
He was delivering the convocation address at the National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), Pune.
While acknowledging that the number of cases referred to corporate debt restructuring (CDR) cell was on the rise, Mr Kamath exuded optimism that this would be sorted out soon.
He said that experience had shown that only 10-15 per cent of the assets restructured turned into NPAs eventually. A lot of those restructured assets are reabsorbed when the economy starts growing at a rapid pace, he said.
