Scotching all rumours of differences between the Government and the RBI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasised that they were on the same page.
Showering praise on the RBI Governor, Modi said, “I happen to meet Raghuram (Rajan) once every two months and he comes prepared with three or four slides.
He makes me understand them so perfectly that I don’t need to question anything, I understand what he says…”
“He must have been the best teacher… This also means that there is similarity between the thought process of the RBI and the Government and this is important…I express my satisfaction as a government representative.”
Modi also appreciated the efforts of the RBI officials over the years in creating the central banking institution.
“RBI has also put itself on a global perspective... and has remained relevant through changing times.”
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also lauded RBI’s efforts in improving macro-economic conditions in the last eight decades.
“It is the professionalism and ability of the central bank which has indeed served the country well. We are indeed proud of its performance,” Jaitley said.
