The Government has re-appointed Dr K.C. Chakrabarty as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a further period of three months from Thursday.
Dr Chakrabarty’s three-year term was due to end today.
The Finance Ministry had approved of his re-appointment for two years or until his attaining age of 62, whichever is earlier. But the final clearance has to come from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
As the final approval from the committee for a fresh two-year term could take time, the Centre has decided to grant a three-month extension, official sources said.
Dr Chakrabarty was appointed as the Deputy Governor of RBI in 2009 for a period of three years. He had assumed charge on June 15, 2009.
