Amid speculation over whether the government will give him a second term, Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday.
While Rajan declined to comment on the meeting, which lasted for over half-an-hour, sources said it was a pre-monetary policy meeting as the Finance Minister will be travelling between May 28 and June 4.
Rajan will also be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day.
RBI will announce its second bi-monthly monetary policy review on June 7.
Meanwhile, when asked on the issue of the monetary policy committee, Rajan said the government will nominate its members.
