The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) has said that the Centre should reimburse the cost of demonetisation to banks and to the workforce.
Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Y Sudarshan, president of AIBOC, said that the demonetisation has caused a serious work pressure on employees and officers working in the banking industry.
However, the entire workforce stood by the government’s initiative to tackle the black money problem and cooperated in the successful implementation of the demonetisation scheme.
The untold sufferings of the workforce should have been taken care by the government and appropriate relief should have been provided to them, he said.
Banks could not give adequate attention to lending during the process of demonetisation. This has affected the performance of banks during the period.
The United Forum of Bank Unions has decided to conduct a one-day strike on February 28 in protest against various issues affecting the banking sector, he said.
