The last working day before the New Year should bring some respite to the 3550 account holders at State Bank of India's Main Branch in Coimbatore as the bank just confirmed that it has “restored the access right” to the ATM cards that were hitherto blocked.
The bank decision to unblock the cards is consequent to a news report titled “Aadhaar linking: Customers irked as banks block ATM cards” that appeared in today's (December 30) issue of The Hindu Business Line.
It is learnt that these 3500-odd customers were among the 80000+ account holders that the bank had identified for not linking their account with the Aadhaar and PAN and had blocked their ATM card access.
While a good number of such customers had approached the branch over the last fortnight and seeded their accounts, there were many others who had taken it as a personal issue and alerted the Coimbatore Consumer Cause.
The bank's reassurance on the access right to their accounts is seen as a “swift” and welcome gesture.
