State Bank of India (SBI) has surpassed the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) loans target for the year 2017-18 in Telangana.
“We have been doing good in this segment consistently. The target for the financial year ended March 2018, which was ₹2,100 crore, was attained in February itself,” J Swaminathan, Chief General Manager, Hyderabad circle, told
As of February, 2018, SBI disbursed loans worth ₹2,500 crore under Mudra . This is expected to go up further if March figures are also included.
At the national level, the PMMY’s target for the year is ₹2.44 lakh crore. It was ₹1.80 lakh crore in financial year 2016-17.
Launched in April 2015, Mudra offers three categories of loans: Shishu (up to ₹50,000), Kishor (₹50,000-5 lakh), and Tarun (₹5 lakh-10 lakh).
Retail loans
In the retail loan segment, home loans and auto loans are driving business with 17 per cent and 19 per cent growth, respectively.
“The ticket size of most of the housing loans is in the range of ₹20 lakh to ₹30 lakh though there are loans that go beyond ₹40 lakh too,” the SBI executive said.
Non-performing assets (NPAs) are “under control” at 0.89 per cent in home loans and 1.3 per cent in auto loans.
However, there was a spurt in NPAs in education loans in the June-September 2018 quarter.
“But we have done well in the fourth quarter,” he added. The total education loan portfolio of SBI in the region was at ₹1,600 crore.
SBI had also stabilised its operations now with the completion of integration of State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH).
During August 2017 and February 2018, 153 branches were rationalised (closed down), besides 115 ATMs in the circle. A GPS-based analysis has been used, along with some other parameters, to identify branches in the radius of 1.5 km.
