S.R. Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director, Corporation Bank

After a gap of over three months, Corporation Bank has a new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) in S.R. Bansal. The CMD’s post at this public sector lender has been vacant since July 1 this year after Ajai Kumar retired on June 30.

Bansal assumed charge in the Capital on Saturday after the Centre issued a notification in this regard. He is due to retire on January 1, 2016. Prior to this, he was an executive director at Punjab National Bank, a position he took up in June 2012. Bansal started his banking career with Dena Bank in 1981 and went on to hold the office of the Field General Manager (North India), covering eight states.

Other vacancies

There are other top slots in public sector banks that have yet to be filled. The Centre has yet to appoint a CMD for Andhra Bank. Bank of Maharashtra has gone headless from October 1.

There is also no formal word yet on who will head State Bank of India, the country’s largest commercial bank, even as Arundhati Bhattacharya, who is currently Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer, is being tipped as a probable contender for the post of SBI Chairperson. Pratip Chaudhuri, the former Chairman, retired on September 30.
