On January 13, Prime Minister Narendra Mod hailed the crop insurance scheme. He said that it helped crores of farmers by mitigating farming risks.
In a tweet, he said, "An important initiative to secure hardworking farmers from the vagaries of nature, PM Fasal Bima Yojana completes five years on January 13th. The Yojana has increased coverage, mitigated risk & benefitted crores of farmers. I congratulate all beneficiaries of the scheme."
Agricultural Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that 29 crore farmers have insured their crops under this scheme and said that the government has disbursed claims worth Rs 90,000 crore in the last five years. He said that the centre is using technology to ensure speedy disbursal of claims and crop assessment. He added that the scheme is voluntary and that the Centre is taking the effort to make it more transparent.
