Gaganashree, a 13-year-old girl from Bengaluru, has undergone a six-hour surgery for Spondylo-epiphyseal dysplasia, a rare genetic disorder.
With this corrective surgery in Fortis Hospitals, the girl was able to walk, after years of physical and emotional struggle.
"With this surgery Gaganashree's lower limbs were straightened and helped her to walk normally," said Mohan Puttaswamy, consultant Reconstructive Orthopedic Surgeon at Fortis hospitals. In her case, the deformity was in the knees, thigh bones and leg bones, which made walking very awkward and difficult.
"Even her basic activities like walking was difficult and she faced ridicule at school because of the strange way in which she walked, said her grandfather, P Narayanappa.
