A record 1.93 lakh candidates have registered this year to take the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) organised by VIT University, Vellore. Last year, 1.66 lakh candidates registered for the test.
The test will be held in the form of a computer-based test from April 9 to 20 for admission into the B.Tech programme offered by the university. About 4,197 seats are available, G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor of the university, told newspersons.
Counselling for the admission will be held from May 19 to 22. Central and state-board toppers will get 100 per cent fee waiver for all four years. VITEEE rank holders between 1 and 50 will get 75 per cent fee waiver, those from 51 to 100 will get 50 per cent and between 101 and 1,000 get 25 per cent.
Plus two toppers among students (one boy and one girl) from government schools in rural areas in each district in Tamil Nadu appearing for VITEEE and securing top marks will get 100 per cent tuition fee waiver and full exemption from hostel and mess fee, he said.
