As many as 35 historical monuments, 12 of them in the national capital, have become “untraceable” due to changing weather conditions and urbanisation, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

The monuments that have disappeared from the Capital include the Barakhamba Tomb cemetery, Siege Battery bearing British era inscriptions, and a mound known as Jogabai.

Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch said in a written reply that besides the dozen monuments in Delhi, the rest are in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Katoch said efforts were on to locate and identify the untraceable monuments through old records, revenue maps and published materials.
